This article will provide an overview of how to allocate jobs to staff without scheduling the job for a specific time. Note that this functionality is contained in a ServiceM8 Add-on (i.e. the feature is not automatically "on" in new accounts), so if allocating jobs to staff in booking windows, such as "During Business Hours" is a requirement for your business, you'll need to activate the Job Allocations Add-on.
Activate the Job Allocations add-on
Go to Settings > ServiceM8 Add-ons and activate Job Allocations.

To allocate a job, simply drag the job onto a staff member's icon in the Dispatch Board view, and it will bring up this window.
The booking window allows you to quickly give your tech the time in which the job can be completed. These booking windows are fully customisable in Preferences.
Set how long the job is likely to go for with an estimated work duration.
Specify the date for the job allocation to show up in the staff member's jobs list.
This is how long the job will stay allocated to the staff member. If the job is urgent you might set the expiration to 1 hour, so the office can stay on top of the job and reallocate if the job hasn't been done yet.
The message will go to the messages area of the app unless the job is urgent. Urgent jobs bring a notification up on the staff member's iOS device, with a corresponding voice notification "Urgent job allocated".
