Your ServiceM8 account came with default invoice and quote templates already set up, but you can change or modify them as your business requires. You have three options when it comes to setting up your templates for invoices and quotes:
- You can use an existing template from the ServiceM8 document template library.
- You can modify an existing template to suit your business needs.
- You can create a new template.
TIP: When setting up your invoice or quote templates, we strongly recommend that you start from an existing template design whenever possible. If you need help with customisation, reach out to a ServiceM8 Partner.
Using an existing template
You can adjust certain settings on your default templates (for example, terms and conditions, thank you notes at the bottom, etc.). However, if the default templates don't meet your needs, scroll through the ServiceM8 document template library - there's a great chance you'll find exactly what you're looking for.
TIP: As you scroll through the templates, consider your business needs. Should your invoice include bank account details? Do you want your customers to see materials on the invoice, or simply a total amount owing? There are lots of template variations, so choose accordingly!
When you select a template, ServiceM8 will automatically populate it with your business information and logo. You will also be able to customise any available template settings for that particular template (such as payment options, etc.).

Modifying an existing template
You may have found an existing template in the ServiceM8 document template library that you love, but you want to tweak it a little - maybe you need to change some fields, or you'd like to inject a little more colour into the design.
If you're comfortable with Microsoft Word, we have a wide range of articles to help you modify an existing ServiceM8 invoice or quote template, covering everything from working with fields to troubleshooting images.

Creating a new template
Although we strongly recommend that you start from an existing template design rather than creating your own, you don't have to - we just want to save you time and effort. If you have an existing template that you'd like to use, or if you just want to create something entirely new, you can do that too. You will need to be very comfortable using Word, and you will need to pay close attention to your formatting and your merge fields, but we have lots of information to help you along the way!
Refer to the help article in the previous section as you design your new template, and keep the following best practices in mind: Tips for designing new invoice or quote templates.
TIP: If your design needs are complex, or if your time is better spent doing other things, you can always contact a ServiceM8 Partner for help in setting up everything just the way you like it.
