- One-click Optimisation: From the Staff Schedule, you can instantly calculate the most efficient order for a single staff member to attend jobs their jobs for the day.
Mixed Booking Types: You can keep fixed-time bookings in place, while optimising when you attend “allocated” jobs. You can also choose to re-scheduled fixed bookings, or convert them to allocations for maximum optimisation. - Flexible Start & Finish Points: Routes can begin and end at your office, or a staff member’s home address.
- Review before Applying: You can review and compare the suggested route with your original schedule, before applying.
- iOS App: In the ServiceM8 iOS app, you can optimise your own schedule in Today. The app even excludes Completed jobs, making midday re-optimisation simple.

1. Go to the Staff Schedules view of the Dispatch Board, and navigate to the day on which you want to optimise a staff member’s schedule and route. 2. Right-click the staff member’s icon in the Staff column and click ‘Auto Routing’.
3. ServiceM8 will calculate the most efficient order of jobs for the selected staff member and day.
4. You can click ‘Show Original Route’ in the bottom-left corner to compare the suggested/optimised route to the original route.
5. You can click the three vertical dots to adjust the level of optimisation you want to apply:
- Low: Keep fixed-time bookings and only reorder allocated jobs.
- Medium: Reschedule fixed-time bookings to new times and reorder allocated jobs.
- High: Convert fixed-time bookings to allocated jobs and fully optimise the day.
Let’s check out some examples of how each level of optimisation with Auto Routing would treat your schedule for the day, based on having 3 x fixed-time bookings at 8am, 10am and 2pm; and 3 x jobs allocated to attend during ‘Business Hours’.
- Low: Auto Routing will leave the 3 x fixed bookings in place, and only optimise the order in which you attend the 3 x Business Hours jobs around the fixed-time bookings.
- Medium: Auto Routing may reschedule some (or all) of the fixed-time bookings to new fixed times, such as 9am, 11am and 3pm, while also optimising the order in which you attend the 3 x Business Hours jobs around the new fixed-time bookings.
- High: Auto Routing will convert the 3 x fixed-time bookings to ‘Business Hours’ allocations, resulting in 6 x Business Hours jobs, offering maximum flexibility. Auto Routing would then proceed to optimise the route and order of attendance on this basis.
- By default, routes are calculated on the basis of the staff member starting and finishing at your office location.
- If you set a home address for a staff member, you will be able to optimise jobs on the basis that they will start and finish at home.
7. To set a Home address for a staff member, go to Accounts > Settings > Staff > Edit > Options > Auto Route Home Address.
