# How do I change the VAT tax rate in ServiceM8?

To change the tax rate in your ServiceM8 account, log in to the Online Dashboard and go to **Settings** > **Preferences** > **Tax Settings**.

If the tax rate you need is not already there, click **Add Tax Rate** and save it.

Please note that you cannot edit the Tax Rate Name or Tax Amount of a saved tax rate that has already been used with items. If you need a different name or rate, you will need to add a new tax rate.

If you already have many saved items with one tax rate and want to update them to a different rate, go to **Settings** > **Materials & Services** and use a bulk action. Click the down-arrow on the left side of the list, select the items to update, then click **Actions** > **Set Tax Rates**.
